We had some friends get married last weekend… on the fly!! Two weeks to plan this shin dig and let me tell you it went off splendidly!

The local was the bride’s mother’s place in Malibu and the music was provided by the bride’s sister.

The cermony was casual and sweet and so loving.

Our next wedding was in Calabasas at the gorgeous Upper Las Virgenes Preserve where it’s Event Coordinator, Joan, was delightful and attentive and eager to help in any way.

Bagpipes filled the sweeping views as guests arrived and were greeted with a special cocktail of fresh citrus, agave, peppercorns, and vodka to get this glorious celebration under way!

October is for Weddings!!

Our first for the month was a great venue in Culver City called the Smog Shoppe. No hasseling moving from here to there. The wedding, the food, the party was all in one charming location.

Spicy Tuna Tar Tar on Crispy Risotto Cakes

Wild Mushroom Ragu with Lemon and Parmesean on Baked Polenta Triangles

And Brandad Arancini with

Charred Heirloom Cherry Tomatoes

There were several action stations where Matt sliced Serrano Ham and a couple Whole Roasted Suckling Pigs.

About a month ago Matt says, “Babe I’ve got a bunch of Lasagna Cupcakes I want to unload. Got any takers?”

Let’s just say unlike many of the things Matt asks me to do, I didn’t have to work too hard to take care of that task!

Sake Tasting at Silverlake Wine

Last weekend was kinda nuts. We did four sizeable catering parties and then our ole’ standby… Sunday’s Silverlake Wine Tasting.

This week, it was not wine but a Sake Tasting. Randy asked Matt to do something sort of Mediterranean/ Asian. I said, “That’s all you, babe! Have fun!”

And so he did.

As you know, last Sunday, August 30th, we did the Sunday Silverlake Wine Tasting paired with Ice Cold Artisanal Beer.

Here was the Menu:

FIRST COURSE:

Peatendril & Wild Rocket Arugula with Summer Squash, Sauteed Wild Mushrooms, Shaved Fennel, Feta, and a Spicy Heirloom Tomato BBQ Dressing

SECOND COURSE:

Spinach Confit Baby Artichoke Agnolotti with Purple Cherokee Compote

THIRD COURSE:

Smoked Mac N Cheese Lasagna with Cumin Coleslaw and Braised Corned Beef

FOURTH COURSE

Chocolate Brioche Bread Pudding in a Bittersweet Chocolate Creme Fraiche Custard, layered with Butterscotch Sauce and served with Milk Chocolate Sauce and Toasted Meringue

Birthday Party Drop Off

Since we have been doing the Sunday Tastings at Silverlake Wine for the last couple of years, we have made some wonderful friends, one of which planned a Surprise Birthday for her husband and asked us to do the food. Regrettably we had another catering scheduled and thus, couldn’t be present during the bash so we coordinated a drop off for the occasion.

Casual Buffet Engagement Party

This weekend we did such a sweet engagement party in a backyard here in Silverlake. Flowers were arranged in Mason jars and vintage vases for whimsy and cheer, and the food was a casual buffet where guests mingled and eventually found themselves singing to everything from Waylon Jennings to Eminem as a warm summer breeze embraced them all on this lovely evening of celebration.

Private Birthday Party at Silverlake Wine

This weekend we also did a private birthday party at Silverlake Wine where the guests each got four flights of wine and a buffet of appetizers. The room was filled with laughter and I think it’s safe to say that everyone had a blast.
